Piskaya Festival

The town of Antequera celebrates its 148th Foundation Day through a series of activities under the theme “Facing the Challenges, Building Strength, and Sustaining Development.”

The four-day celebration, called the ‘Piskaya Festival,’ will showcase the vibrant culture, history, and basket weaving industry of the town.

The word “Piskaya” is a Bisaya term meaning abundance or plenty.

The celebration will commence on March 14 with the blessing and opening of basket and agricultural display booths, followed by the opening program and the fire olympics organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Antequera.

On the second day, the town will honor the women of Antequera through a Women’s Day Celebration, featuring various activities such as livelihood seminars, health services, and games.

In the evening, the town will come alive with music and talent as the Kanta Piskaya (Singing Contest) showcases the best singers in the town.

On the third day of the celebration, the focus will shift to sports and adventure, with the Tour De Antequera 2024 (21KM, 10KM, and 5KM Trail Run) challenging participants to run through the scenic routes of the town.

During the evening, the “Rakrakan sa Plaza” will be held, featuring performances by Antequera Local Bands, entertaining the crowd with their original and cover songs.

The highlight of the celebration on March 17 is the actual Foundation Day of Antequera.

The day will start with a mass and flower offering, followed by a brief program where the mayor will deliver the State of the Municipality Address and recognize board passers and sports achievers.

The program will be followed by a lunch and fellowship with guests and residents of the town.

In the afternoon, the streets will come alive with vibrant colors and energy as the street dancing and festival ritual showdown take place.

Participants, adorned in elaborate costumes and props, will showcase dances depicting the town’s history, culture, and basket-weaving industry.

The celebration will culminate with a live band performance that will entertain the crowd until late in the evening.

The Piskaya Festival is not just a commemoration of the town’s founding anniversary, but also a showcase of its many achievements, products, and talents.
